Bubble hash: what it is and how to choose it
6 min read

Bubble hash is the market’s name for cannabis resin said to be separated from the plant with ice and water rather than dry. It is a name, not a quality guarantee. When you buy, other things matter: what the listing says (fresh-frozen, static, micron), how the resin looks and what a gram costs. This guide goes through each one.
What is bubble hash?
Hash is cannabis resin: the trichomes, the tiny glands on the flower where THC and terpenes concentrate, separated from the plant and pressed together. The name changes with the separation method. "Bubble hash", as growers and shops use it, refers to resin said to be collected with ice-cold water: the cold would make the trichomes brittle so they snap off. That is also why some call it Ice-o-lator. It is not a protected term; it is a market label.
For a sense of scale on resin in general: according to the EUDA European Drug Report 2025, resin seized in the EU in 2023 contained 23 % THC on average, more than twice herbal cannabis (11 %). In Italy, the 2026 report to Parliament puts the average THC of hashish tested in 2025 at 31 to 34 %, and links it to processing aimed at ever more concentrated extracts. These are seizure averages, not the value of any specific product.
Where the name comes from
Two explanations go around, and neither is official. The first points to "bubble bags", filter bags with meshes of different sizes that, according to makers, sort the resin by size. The second to the small bubbles very pure resin is said to make when heated. Either way, the name describes a method and a promise of purity, not a strain.
So when you see "bubble" on a product, the useful question is not "is it bubble or not?" but "what exactly does the listing say?". For the full picture of styles, see our guide what is hash and which styles exist.
Bubble hash, frozen, static: what the label really says
The word "bubble" does not appear in our catalogue. We use the words of each listing, which says what the product is and nothing more. Here is how to read them:
- Fresh-frozen: in trade jargon it describes the starting material, plants frozen right after harvest instead of dried. It is the term used across our fresh-frozen hash range. On its own, it does not say how the resin was separated.
- Static: listings in the static hash category say "Static hash". In the market, the term is used for resin separated dry, by sieving.
- Micron (for example "90 micron"): the mesh size used to sort the resin. More on that below.
So a frozen or a static is not automatically bubble hash, and we do not claim it is. You only know a product’s method if its listing states it.
How to recognise good bubble hash
Without a lab test, THC cannot be measured. But some signs you can check yourself when you open the parcel:
- Colour: from pale blond to brown. It also depends on genetics and curing, so on its own it is not enough; a dark green can point to more plant material.
- Texture: clean resin softens between your fingers in a few seconds. If it stays powdery or woody, it probably contains plant matter.
- Smell: when you break a piece, the aroma should match the stated strain. Musty or cut-grass smells are a bad sign.
- Melt: heated, very pure resin melts and leaves little residue. That is the "full melt" test.
- Consistency: genetics, style and size should match what you ordered.
Micron and "full melt": what they mean on a label
The micron figure (µm) gives the mesh of the filter or sieve the resin went through: one micron is a thousandth of a millimetre. Whoever sorts by size keeps some fractions and discards others, because trichome heads and plant fragments differ in size. The number tells you which fraction you have, not how much THC it contains.
In our catalogue, the only product that states its mesh is Tropaya Frozen Dry 90u: "90 micron hash from fresh-frozen Tropaya", says the listing. It says nothing more about the method, so neither do we.
"Full melt" is a market phrase for resin that melts almost completely. It is not a certification; you find out when you use it. A customer put it plainly about one of our statics: not quite full melt, some plant residue stays in the vaporiser (France, delivered in 7 days, September 2026).
How much does bubble hash cost per gram?
The price per gram depends on style and size. These are two of our listings, both in stock on 7 November 2026, with their pack pricing:
Jelly Runtz Frozen
| Size | Price | €/g |
|---|---|---|
| 1 g | €18.00 | €18.00 |
| 2 g | €33.50 | €16.75 |
| 5 g | €79.00 | €15.80 |
| 10 g | €146.00 | €14.60 |
Yellow Mellow Static
| Size | Price | €/g |
|---|---|---|
| 1 g | €22.00 | €22.00 |
| 2 g | €40.50 | €20.25 |
| 5 g | €96.50 | €19.30 |
| 10 g | €178.00 | €17.80 |
| 20 g | €330.00 | €16.50 |
Two things stand out. The gram gets cheaper with size: at 10 g it costs 19 % less than at 1 g in both cases. And static costs more than frozen at every size both come in. Prices can change; the listing is always the reference.
How to store it
- Dark and cool: light and heat dry the resin out and drive off its aroma.
- In an airtight container, ideally glass, wrapped in baking paper if you like.
- Away from moisture: if you keep it in the fridge, let the container reach room temperature before opening it so no condensation forms.
- Out of reach of children and pets.

Frequently asked questions
Are bubble hash and frozen the same thing?
Not necessarily. "Bubble hash" is a market name for resin separated with ice and water; "fresh-frozen" describes the starting material, frozen fresh. A product can be one, the other or both: you only know the method if the listing states it.
How much does a gram of bubble hash cost?
It depends on style and size. With us, on 7 November 2026, a frozen like Jelly Runtz ran from €18 (1 g) to €14.60/g (10 g); a static like Yellow Mellow from €22 to €16.50/g.
What does "90 micron" mean on hash?
That the resin was sorted with a 90-thousandths-of-a-millimetre mesh. It describes a size fraction, not strength or method.
Bubble hash vs dry sift: what is the difference?
Dry sift is made by sieving dry, with no water; bubble hash, as the term is used, with ice and water. Our products in that style are in the dry sift category.
